CLERA WINDOWS + DOORS · VINYL WINDOWS GUIDE
There are several clear signs that your windows have reached the end of their useful life. If you are experiencing two or more of these issues, replacement is likely more cost-effective than repair.
1. Drafts and air infiltration
Cold air blowing near a closed window means that the seal or weatherstripping has failed, which can drive up heating costs and reduce your home comfort.
2. Condensation between the glass panes
If you spot fogging or visible moisture between double- or triple-pane windows, it means the insulating seal has broken. Once that happens, the window permanently loses its efficiency and must be replaced.
3. Difficulty opening, closing, or locking
Once windows begin to jam, stick, or experience difficulty locking, it becomes a security concern, and usually points to frame warping or hardware damage.
4. Visible frame damage
Cracking, rotting, warping, or soft spots in the frame allow water infiltration and signal structural failure.
5. Rising energy bills
Heating or cooling costs that have increased without explanation could indicate a failing window. Old or degraded windows are a major source of energy loss in Canadian homes.
6. Excessive outside noise
Modern double or triple-pane windows provide meaningful sound attenuation. If street noise seems louder than it used to, your windows may have lost their seal or lack adequate glazing.
