ENERGY STAR® is a government-endorsed certification that identifies products from various industries that meet stringent energy performance standards. In any given industry, only the top 15% to 30% of products meet the rigorous energy efficiency standards held by ENERGY STAR®.
In the window industry specifically, a company must have its windows tested by an accredited third party to be considered for ENERGY STAR® certification. Our windows and doors have surpassed industry standards through extensive heat-loss and/or air leakage testing, in conjunction with an analysis of their potential solar gain.

Manufacturers are responsible for testing their products in EPA-approved laboratories or by certified third-party testing organizations.
Any product that is ENERGY STAR® certified will be listed on the Natural Resources Canada website in the ENERGY STAR® section. You can also spot the label on our windows and doors!

The U-factor is the rate at which a window loses heat—the lower the number, the slower the heat loss. Meanwhile, ER is a formula that considers the U-factor (heat loss), air leakage, and the benefit of potential solar gains of a window—the higher the value, the higher the potential for energy savings.
Low-E glass means a special coating was applied to the glass to improve energy efficiency. Windows installed in Canada should have a low U-factor coupled with a very high solar heat gain coefficient. Together, you get year-round energy savings!
